FaceBook has found a (temporary) solution to what they think can solve the problem of adults creating accounts for their babies. As we know, the age requirement for setting up a FaceBook account is 13 years old. They have annouced that you can now tell your friends that you are expecting a child, and when the due date of that child is.
But will this really solve the problem? What about the children themselves who are under 13 years of age who are creating Facebook accounts?

I dont think it will solve the problem - there is too much in our world that 'requires' Facebook activity... even for me I know I wouldnt know what events my friends were hosting without Facebook.
ReplyDeleteI think they need to create a kids Facebook that has parental controlled permissions and that is heavily monitored....
@Sonika, I think you have a really good idea there. I wouldn't say it's a problem creating a page for kids, but at some point the kids are going to be old enough to understand things and wanting to take over the account, then the kid is friends with all his/her parents' friends, so then what? Do they delete all the friends and try to re-create the account, or manage two account, one through parents and one by themselves?
ReplyDeleteI know my fiancee wouldn't be revealing that?! I guess there's also an argument that might say it's not right to breach the baby's privacy?
